Printing a book will be the single largest cost of self publishing your book. Our printing partners consult with us on the most well-suited paper, format, and binding for your type of project. We can then save you money by suggesting slight adjustments to your book specifications.

Our offset printing starts at 3,000 books. Offset book printing provides the best per copy cost and reproduction quality compared with digital book printing.

Print a book in North America or overseas?

Print your self published book in North America if:

  • you have a short turnaround time and need books printed and delivered in about 4 weeks
  • the interior text will be printed in black (or 1 PMS color) on uncoated paper
  • the page count is around 100 pages or less
  • the book is a softcover with perfect binding

Print your self-published book overseas if:

  • you have a long turnaround time, and need books printed and delivered in about 8 weeks
  • your book is an expensive production and you want to save about 40% on book printing
  • the interior will be printed in 4 process colors on coated paper, with color illustrations and/or photographs
  • the page count is more than 100 pages
  • the book has a hardcover with sewn binding and possibly a color dustjacket

Prepress

  • consultation about your book and how best to print it
  • quotes in either US or Canadian dollars
  • book samples if available
  • analysis of your sample PDF text file to make sure it meets all technical printing specs


Production

  • dummy books made to the specs of your book
  • print production schedule
  • coordination between you and the printer
  • review of your final PDF artwork file preparation
  • color testing if necessary
  • cover design template with measurement for spine, bleed, etc.

Proofs

  • 1 set of low-resolution hard copy proofs of your text and cover (included in your quote)
  • 1 high-resolution hard copy proof of your cover (extra cost)
  • high-resolution hard copy proofs of any text pages (extra cost)


Advances

  • 2 advance printed and bound books couriered to you for approval (before your entire book order is shipped)


Shipping

  • preparation of all cross-border paperwork and customs brokerage (if applicable)
  • arrangement of a delivery appointment between you and the shipper
