Children’s Book Printing Services That Bring Your Vision to Life
Beautiful books deserve exceptional printing. Callawind provides professional children’s book printing and print production management for authors, publishers, and organizations producing high-quality illustrated books.
We work with trusted printing partners in the U.S., Canada, and overseas to find the right balance of quality, production requirements, quantity, turnaround time, and cost for each project.
With more than 30 years of book production experience, we understand that printing involves far more than sending a PDF to a printer. We help you make informed production decisions before your book goes to press and manage the process through final delivery.
Why Print Your Children’s Book with Callawind?
Printing is often one of the largest investments involved in publishing a book. Choosing specifications or a printer based solely on the lowest quote can become expensive if the finished book doesn’t meet expectations.
We know what questions to ask, what details to look for, and where problems can arise before a book goes to press. Because we work with multiple printing partners, we can recommend the production solution that best fits your book rather than limiting you to the capabilities of a single printer.
Sometimes even a small adjustment to a book’s specifications can make a meaningful difference in production cost. We can identify those opportunities while helping you preserve the quality and character of your book.
Offset Printing for High-Quality Children’s Books
Offset printing is particularly well suited to children’s and other illustrated books because it provides excellent color reproduction, a wide selection of papers and bindings, extensive finishing options, and increasingly economical per-book pricing as quantities rise.
Unlike print-on-demand platforms, which typically offer more limited production options, offset printing gives you much greater flexibility in your choice of paper, binding, cover treatments, finishes, and other manufacturing details.
Options can include:
- Hardcover, softcover, softcover with flaps, flexi cover, and dust jackets
- Sewn, glued, and wire binding
- Board book construction, including rounded corners and hardcover with board book interior
- Coated and uncoated papers
- Matte, gloss, satin, and other specialty laminations
- Foil stamping, embossing, and debossing
- Spot UV
- Die cutting
- Specialty inks, including soy-based inks
- Ribbon bookmarks
- Slipcases and custom packaging
We Manage Your Book Printing from Start to Finish
You don’t need to research printers, compare unfamiliar paper stocks, decipher printing specifications, coordinate proofs across time zones, or figure out international freight yourself. Callawind manages the process for you.
Printing Consultation and Specifications
We review your book and help determine the most appropriate trim size, paper, binding, finishes, quantity, and other production specifications.
Printer Sourcing and Quotations
We obtain and evaluate quotations from printing partners suited to your project, considering quality, production capabilities, timing, and cost.
Prepress and File Review
Before printing begins, we coordinate with the printer to ensure your final print-ready files meet the required technical specifications.
Proofing
Proofing requirements vary by project and printer. Depending on the book, proofs may include digital proofs, hard-copy color proofs, binding samples, paper samples, or other production samples. We review the proofing process with you so you know what you are approving before your book goes to press.
Print Production Management
Once the book enters production, we coordinate directly with the printer, oversee the production schedule, address questions or issues that arise, and keep you informed throughout the process.
Advance Copies
When available and appropriate for the project, finished advance copies can be reviewed before the balance of the print run is released for shipment.
Freight and Delivery
For overseas projects, we coordinate international freight, customs documentation, brokerage, and final delivery arrangements. For North American printing, we coordinate shipping and delivery with the printer and freight provider. Our goal is to make the logistics as seamless as possible, with your finished books delivered to your door, warehouse, or other designated location.
Wondering Where to Print?
Printing in the U.S. or Canada
North American printing may be a good choice when:
- The production schedule is relatively tight.
- Freight distance and transit time are important considerations.
- The book has relatively straightforward printing and binding requirements.
- Domestic production is a priority for the project.
North American printing can also be particularly competitive for certain specifications, such as one-color softcover books with lower page counts.
Printing Overseas
Overseas printing can be especially advantageous for certain full-color illustrated books, including:
- Hardcover books
- Board books
- Books with higher page counts
- Books printed on coated paper
- Books requiring sewn binding
- Books with specialty finishes or more complex manufacturing requirements
- Larger print quantities
Book Printing FAQs
What print quantities do you work with?
Callawind generally works with print runs of 1,000 copies or more, although we can accommodate smaller quantities depending on your project’s requirements. We offer both offset and digital book printing and recommend the most cost-effective solution based on your book’s specifications, quantity, and budget.
Should I print my children’s book in the U.S., Canada, or overseas?
It depends on the project. We compare printing options based on your book specifications, quantity, budget, and schedule rather than recommending one location for every book.
How much does it cost to print a children’s book?
There is no standard printing price because children’s books vary considerably. Page count, quantity, paper, binding, color, special features, shipping, and printing location can all affect the cost. Once we know your book specifications, we can obtain accurate printing quotations.
Do I need print-ready files before contacting you?
No. In fact, it can be helpful to discuss printing before the final files are completed. Production decisions such as trim size, page count, paper, binding, and special features can affect both book design and printing cost. If your book still requires professional design and layout, Callawind can also prepare the final print-ready files.
